Transport Scotland has announced the shortlist of bidders for £5m contract to upgrade the A737 between Beith and Dalry.

Four companies are in the running to construct a section of new carriageway just over half a mile long to replace the existing route, including new junctions.

The major works will remove a double bend on the existing stretch of road and deliver safety benefits.

The contract is estimated to be worth £5m with the award expected in Spring 2018.

I & H Brown Ltd, Interserve Construction Ltd, R J McLeod Ltd and Roadbridge Civil Engineering & Building Contractors have been shortlisted for the project.

Transport minister Humza Yousaf said: "Work is already under way to construct a bypass around Dalry and today's announcement marks further progress in improving the A737 for communities in North Ayrshire as well as those road users travelling further distances."
