No criminal charges will be brought against a cheesemaker over the death of a three-year-old girl.

The child contracted E Coli and died following an outbreak of the disease in autumn last year.

It was linked to Dunsyre Blue cheese made by Errington Cheese and a ban was on its products was introduced.

The company disputed Health Protection Scotland's findings and a judge later ruled the ban was unlawful.

On Wednesday, it emerged no charges would be brought against the South Lanarkshire cheese maker over the girl's death but a fatal accident inquiry could still be held.

A spokesman for the Crown Office said: "After giving the case careful consideration, Crown counsel have concluded that there will be no criminal proceedings brought.

"Should additional evidence come to light that decision may be reconsidered. The family have been informed of this decision."
