Motorists have been warned that resurfacing work on Scotland's busiest motorway will cause delays near Glasgow Airport this weekend.

Scotland TranServ will carry out resurfacing work on a 570m stretch of the M8 Eastbound at junction 27, on behalf of Transport Scotland.

The eastbound carriageway will be restricted to two lanes plus hard-shoulder running during the day and one running late at night.

To keep traffic moving, Scotland TranServ will implement hardshoulder running and a reduced speed limit during the day on Saturday and Sunday.

Westbound motorway lanes will be unaffected.

Works will get underway from 8pm on Friday 13th and run until 6am on Monday 16th October.

In order to address issues with surface defects and structural cracking, the £150k scheme will operate at the weekend only.

Alan Murray, Scotland TranServ's Principal Roads Design Engineer said:

"This is a very busy stretch of motorway, with more than 100,000 vehicles using the M8 every weekday.

"Work will be carried out overnights, but because of the depth of the resurfacing project it will be necessary to leave the newly laid road for a longer period to cool and harden.

"This will mean lane restrictions being implemented during the day too.

"Working in liaison with Police Scotland, local authorities and key stakeholders, we have scheduled this project to be delivered with minimal disruption.

"The works will address issues with surface defects and structural cracking along a 570m length of the Eastbound carriageway. A number of similar schemes are currently being planned to improve the surface of Scotland's busiest motorway in this area."

Motorists using the motorway in the Junction 29 Eastbound area over the weekend should expect minor delays.
