Letters are being sent to people living in Glasgow high-rises that have the same type of cladding used on Grenfell Tower.

A total of 80 people died during a blaze at the London tower block linked to flammable insulation on the outside of the building.

Up to 57 privately-owned buildings in Glasgow could feature the same type of cladding.

Letters were being hand-delivered to people living in affected properties on Friday.

Glasgow City Council has said it will not release a list of the high-rises affected.

Council leader Susan Aitken has apologised for any distress the situation - which emerged unexpectedly during a public meeting with MSPs - has caused.

"This problem came about because information that was incomplete emerged prematurely, for which I can only apologise to anyone who has been alarmed or distressed by that happening," she said.

"That should never have happened but once it did we had to make sure the problem wasn't compounded by other incomplete information."

The council believes the situation does not affect many households.
