A new £5.2m state-of-the-art primary school, early childhood centre and community facility has been officially opened in Cumnock.

Muirkirk Primary pupils and staff were joined by MSP Jeane Freeman for a special ceremony of song, dance and poetry.

The centre took just over a year to complete and includes a community garden and outdoor play area.

Ms Freeman said: "It was an honour to open this fantastic building which the pupils are so clearly excited about.

"This is a great space not only for the pupils to learn in, but for the whole community to enjoy and I have no doubt it will go from strength to strength."
