Children in Ayr and Girvan are set to benefit from a programme of healthy activities, with lunches provided, following a successful summer pilot.

More than 7,500 healthy lunches were served up at activities over the summer holidays.

South Ayrshire Council has agreed to continue the programme for the October school break, ahead of a possible extension in summer 2018.

Leader of South Ayrshire Council Councillor Douglas Campbell said: "The feedback we had following the popular summer pilot was extremely positive, and I'm pleased to announce that we will be extending the programme into the October school holidays.

"By working closely with our partners we'll be supporting a range of activities taking place in Ayr North and Girvan while providing lunches, which is something that will help families.

"We're committed to helping families during the holidays and this latest programme is a great example of responding to an identified need in our community, and is one which I'm sure will be warmly welcomed."
