More than 600 people have signed an online petition against cuts to a bus service in Cumnock.

The petition has a target of 1000 signatures and demands Stagecoach does not make any changes to the 42/43 service.

The route from Cumnock to Muirkirk is planned to be reduced from its current 30-minute frequency to an hourly service.

Residents are concerned the changes will have a major impact on their daily lives.

Evelyn Wilson said: "I depend on the 43 to get to work, which is rural, and also the times of this change could make life difficult."

Kerry Roberts said: "As someone with multiple chronic health conditions I wholeheartedly disagree with the decision to cut these bus services.

"I rely on public transport to travel. As such, these cuts represent another obstacle to my ability to travel to hospital appointments and to participate in society.

"Consequentially, cuts such as these, are making me increasingly house bound."

David Wotherspoon said: "Public transport should be for the benefit of the public, not the bus company."

Stagecoach has held back the service cuts until September 17.
