Residents of a street in East Dunbartonshire were evacuated from their homes following a gas leak caused by a severed main.

The gas leak was reported near Falloch Road in Bearsden at about 2.30pm on Tuesday.

Engineers were sent to the site and were able to isolate the gas main, with residents allowed back into their homes shortly before 4pm.

It is understood around 60 homes were affected by the leak, with the gas main thought to have been severed accidentally.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said earlier: "Residents have been evacuated from properties."
