The success of a new blockbuster war movie, Dunkirk, could play a major part in securing the future of one of the boats involved in the historic mission.

Skylark IX is the last remaining boat in Scotland from the armada of leisure boats that took part in the dramatic rescue.

Rescuing more than 600 soldiers at Dunkirk, she is one of the famous "little ships" immortalised in the new film.

Post-war she served as a passenger vessel taking cruises on Loch Lomond before being abandoned to sink in Loch Leven.

A huge rescue effort in 2012 saw her brought to dry dock at the Scottish Maritime Museum in Irvine.

The team hoping to restore her say they have enjoyed an upsurge in interest and hope it will boost their fundraising campaign to return her to former glory.
