A motorcyclist is fighting for his life after smashing into a wall while riding with his friends.

The crash happened on the B743 Strathaven to Muirkirk road at about 7.25pm on Wednesday.

A 30-year-old man was riding his Suzuki motorbike when he lost control and smashed into a wall near Dungavel, South Lanarkshire.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with a serious head injury.

The man is described as being in a critical condition.

Constable Dougie Bryson, of the divisional road policing unit at Motherwell, said: "At the time of the crash two of the injured man's friends were travelling on the same road on their bikes.

"I would urge anyone who witnessed the crash take place, or who was driving on that road around the time of the crash to contact officers through 101 quoting reference number 3640 of June 7."
