Armed police will be deployed at Hampden this weekend for Scotland's match against England.

They will also be stationed at Murrayfield for a concert by Robbie Williams on Friday.

It will be the second time in two weeks armed officers have been present at a football match in Scotland following terror attacks in Manchester and London.

Police Scotland previously said increased security would be in place at events this weekend.

Assistant chief constable Bernard Higgins said the force is not aware of any specific threat.

"This is major weekend for Police Scotland as we see a marked increase in visitors to our cities which will undoubtedly impact on our transport network and hospitality industry," he said.

"Armed policing officers will be deployed at both Murrayfield and Hampden Park stadium but the public should not be alarmed by this and they should be reassured that we have put in place contingencies to deal with any eventuality.

"Police Scotland is prepared and has the capability to respond effectively to any incident but it is important that people carry on their business as normal.

"We will not let the threat of terrorism impact on our everyday lives. Enjoy the events over this weekend and be assured that Police Scotland have plans in place to keep people safe."

Gates at Hampden will open at 3pm on Saturday, half an hour earlier than originally planned, the Scottish FA said.

The sold-out Russia 2018 qualifier will kick off at 5pm following a minute's silence for victims of the Manchester and London attacks.
