A racist who filmed himself chanting sectarian abuse about Celtic star Scott Sinclair has admitted his guilt.

Robert Anderson appeared in the dock from custody at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday.

Mobile phone footage of Anderson chanting as he walked through a Glasgow pub was widely shared on social media earlier this week.

The accused filmed himself shouting the racist abuse at McChuill's pub on High Street, which had a number of Celtic fans in it at the time.

Anderson admitted a charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner on May 21 by repeatedly uttering an abusive, sectarian and racial remark, which he recorded on a mobile phone.

The 27-year-old, from Tollcross in Glasgow, admitted the charge, which had a religious prejudice and racially aggravated element.

Sheriff Sukhwinder Gill said "given the nature of the charge and aggravations" she was going to call for reports before sentencing.

Defence lawyer David Tod said: "Somebody other than him put this on social media. He (Anderson) then contacted me and asked me to contact the police.

"I contacted the police to let them know who they were looking for and indicated he wanted to speak to them.

"He made full and frank admissions and gave a number of details about his attitude, how he expected people to feel."

The lawyer added "none of that is in the police summary."

Sentence was deferred until a later date and Anderson - who has resigned from his job - was granted bail.

Celtic winger Sinclair has repeatedly been targeted with racist abuse in his first season in Scottish football.

At the Old Firm match in April, Rangers fan Paul Kenny, of Girvan in South Ayrshire, was caught on camera making a monkey gesture towards the player after he opened the scoring during the Parkhead side's 5-1 win.

The 28-year-old appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court earlier this week and was given 100 hours of unpaid work in a community payback order and banned from attending football matches for 18 months.

In May, a photo featuring a child comparing a monkey to Sinclair was shared on social media.

Former Aston Villa and Manchester City player Sinclair hit out at the abuse, stating he was "absolutely disgusted".
