Tim Hortons has served its first customer in Glasgow as people queued overnight for a taste of the Canadian company's coffee.

Stuart Wightman, 24, was rewarded for camping outside the store on Union Street for 15 hours by winning a year's supply of his favourite drink.

The young father was the first person to get his hands on a "triple, triple, large" cup of coffee.

The customer services assistant from Dumbarton said he was "absolutely delighted".

He said: "I was going to be here at 2pm (on Thursday) but because I was looking after my son I didn't get here until 6pm.

"I had been up for about 29 hours and obviously really needed the coffee, I think I managed to get about four 20-minute naps in during the night.

"I saw on the internet that there was a big hype about it but I was really surprised that it was this big a deal."

Staff dressed as Canadian Mounties greeted eager fans outside the shop on Union Street.

The company's chairman David Clanachan, was born just a few miles away in Clydebank, East Dunbartonshire, and said he wanted the first European store to be in Glasgow.
