Vandals have smashed a police car windscreen in an attack described as "idiotic".

The incident happened on Saturday between 2am and 7am at Callander police station, Stirling.

An "item" was thrown at the windscreen of a police car, causing significant damage.

Sergeant Adrian Robertson said: "In rural areas, officers rely on these vehicles to cover a vast area.

"Whoever was responsible for this idiotic act has made that just a little bit more difficult on what we anticipate will be a busy day, not to mention the cost involved.

"We have a replacement vehicle, and the public can be rest assured that there will be no impact on our ability to serve.

"If anyone has any information that may help identify the person responsible, they can pass on the information by phoning 101 or via Crimestoppers."
