A hiker suffering from dehydration and heat exhaustion was rescued on the hottest day of the year along with another injured hillwalker.

The pair got into difficulty near Rowchoish by Loch Lomond on Thursday as temperatures soared to 28C.

The crew of the Loch Lomond Rescue Boat were scrambled and gave the men medical treatment.

They were later met by an ambulance at Tarbet and the pair were taken to hospital.

A spokesman for the Loch Lomond Rescue Boat said: "We were informed of an injured walker on the West Highland Way north of Rowardennan in need of assistance due to an injured ankle.

"After a short search, two males were found near to Rowchoish one of the males had suffered an ankle injury whilst the other was suffering from dehydration and heat exhaustion.

"Medical assistance was given to both casualties before transporting them to a waiting ambulance at Tarbet."
