A search for a damaged vehicle is under way after it caused a three-car collision and then drove away on the M8.

The driver of one of the other cars was injured in the crash, which took place at around 8.30am on Thursday on the Whitecart Viaduct, near Glasgow Airport.

All three cars were travelling eastbound on the motorway when one of them, a blue-green Volkswagen Golf or Polo, crashed into the back of a red Volkswagen Golf, which then hit a silver Volkswagen Polo.

The blue-green vehicle stopped momentarily before heading off in the direction of Hillington.

One man, the driver of the red Volkswagen Golf, was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

The blue-green car which drove away will have suffered minor damage to its front, say police.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Enquiries are under way to establish the exact circumstances of the incident and officers are appealing for any witnesses or information.

"In particular, officers are asking for any dash cam footage to be handed in as it could assist the ongoing investigation."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact road policing officers via 101.
