A teenager arrested over the death of a woman in an alleged hit-and-run has been released from custody.

Joan Price died after her Nissan Pulsar car collided with a Volkswagen Golf on the A77 in Ayr.

The 59-year-old from Troon was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near Holmston Road Roundabout around 9.35pm on Monday.

Three men were detained by police in connection with the incident.

On Thursday, the Crown Office confirmed a 17-year-old boy who had been arrested had since been released.

A spokesman said: "The procurator fiscal received a report concerning a 17-year-old male, in connection with an incident on the A77 on January 30, 2017.

"After full and careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the case, he was liberated from custody pending further inquiries and did not appear in court."

Two men arrested over the fatal crash appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Logan Knox, 19, of Girvan, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, attempting to pervert the course of justice and driving while disqualified from the road.

He was also charged with failing to identify a driver to the police.

John Gribben, 18, of Ayr, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Both made no plea or declaration. Knox was remanded in custody and Gribben was released on bail.
