A van driver has been taken to hospital after smashing into a bus stop in South Lanarkshire.

The incident happened shortly before 2pm in Cambuslang when the van struck the bus stop sign on Cambuslang Road.

Witnesses said paramedics tried to resuscitate the man at the scene, who appeared to be unconscious at the wheel.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

No one else was hurt in the crash.

A police spokeswoman said: "We were called at around 1.55pm about a van having struck a bus stop on Cambuslang Road.

"One man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment."

The road was shut for around an hour while emergency services dealt with the incident.
