The boss of a sports retailer in Glasgow insists the firm will "continue to flourish" despite the closure of one outlet.

Greaves Sports will close its Sauchiehall Street branch due to a downturn in trading over recent years but managing director Sandy Greaves says redundancies will be "kept to a bare minimum".

The family-run sportswear firm, which first opened in 1930, employs around 100 people across the city with 26 staff members at the outlet set to close its doors.

Mr Greaves plans to redeploy most of the workers to the company's nearby Gordon Street store, which is performing well, and believes less than ten people will lose their jobs.

He told STV News: "I've never been through this before and just don't want to make people redundant. Gordon Street will continue to flourish and our online business continues to grow.

"We're closing the Sauchiehall Street store. We've seen a downtown in trade at the store and it's not what it used to be.

"The Sauchiehall Street store has been in decline for a few years now. Gordon Street has actually been propping up Sauchiehall Street."

He added: "It's no longer profitable and we want to focus on Gordon Street.

"We are working towards the bare minimum in terms of redundancies for staff. There's a lot of room for redeployment to Gordon Street and I'm hoping it's not even ten people (made redundant)."
