A rail line in North Ayrshire was closed after the area was hit by heavy flooding.

The A78 between West Kilbride and Fairlie was also closed following a downpour on Tuesday afternoon but later reopened.

ScotRail announced the closure of the line between Ardrossan South Beach and Largs due to the flooding, with replacement bus services put in place.

The rail operator warned the road closure would affect these bus services, meaning journeys could take an hour and a half.

Normal sevice was resumed around 4pm on Tuesday as water levels receded.

North Ayrshire council said Gateside Street in Largs was also affected by the flooding.
