Officers are hunting for a man with an "athletic build" suspected of setting fire to a house in Renfrewshire.

Fire crews were called out to the blaze at the property in Dennistoun Road, Langbank, at around 10.40pm on Sunday.

No one was hurt but police believe the house was deliberately targeted. The cost of the damage is still being assessed.

The suspect is described as a white man with an athletic build, who was wearing a black skip hat, dark-coloured top, light-coloured trousers and appeared to be carrying a "long thin object".

Detective constable Louise Kane said: "We understand that this was a deliberate and targeted incident and we are doing all we can to trace the man responsible for this reckless act.

"We have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries and are continuing to assess opportunities to capture CCTV images.

"At this time I am appealing to the public to contact us with any information that they may have."

She added: "The property backs onto a wooded area, which we understand is popular with local dog walkers.

"You may have witnessed the fire, or perhaps seen someone acting suspiciously on Sunday evening. Any information, no matter how small, will greatly assist our ongoing investigation.

"Anyone with information about the fire or who has any information that will assist police with the investigation can contact Johnstone CID via 101."
