Pupils were evacuated after a trailer was deliberately set alight behind a school.

Fire crews were called to the scene in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, on Friday morning and spent around an hour tackling the flames.

St Andrew's Primary School on Grassyards Road was evacuated while emergency services dealt with the incident.

It is understood the trailer behind the school was carrying kayaks. No one was injured and police believe the fire was wilful.

A fire service spokesman said: "The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 11.05am to reports of smoke coming from a trailer at the rear of St Andrew's primary school, Kilmarnock.

"Firefighters used one high powered hose to extinguish a small fire.

"There were no casualties. Crews left the scene at 11.55am after ensuring the area was made safe."
