Music fans raise £44,000 for Team Rock staff as firm collapses
Ben Ward, frontman of metal band Orange Goblin, launched campaign after 73 redundancies.
Music fans have raised more than £44,000 for 73 members of staff at a rock publisher as the firm hit financial troubles.
Bosses at Team Rock, based in High Blantyre, Lanarkshire, this week announced it has gone into administration and told all 73 members of staff they have been made redundant.
A total of 27 staff members in Scotland and 46 in London were told on Monday that they were being laid off and would not be paid for the days worked since the last pay day in November.
Team Rock was the publisher behind a number of rock music magazines, including Metal Hammer and Classic Rock as well as TeamRock.com.
Thomas Campbell MacLennan, Alexander Iain Fraser and Jason Daniel Baker of FRP Advisory have been appointed joint administrators.
The frontman of metal band Orange Goblin, Ben Ward, launched an online crowdfunding campaign to raise cash for the staff members and music fans have made donations worth more than £44,000.
The JustGiving page states: "Today, 73 members of the Team Rock staff were told that the company is going into liquidation and that they are being made redundant with immediate effect with zero pay.
"These are good, hard-working, committed people that through Metal Hammer, Classic Rock, Prog Rock, TeamRock Radio and more, have supported the rock and heavy metal scene in this country for decades and now we, the rock community, need to pull together to help give something back.
"Please spare what you can so that everyone may enjoy the festive spirit."
A statement on the Team Rock website states: "Thomas Campbell MacLennan, Alexander Iain Fraser and Jason Daniel Baker of FRP Advisory LLP were appointed as joint administrators of Team Rock Limited December 19, 2016.
"The affairs, business and property of the company are being managed by the joint administrators, who act as agents of the company and without personal liability.
"The company is being managed on a care and maintenance basis only whilst a buyer for the assets is sought."
It adds: "Accordingly, the TeamRock website will be unavailable for the foreseeable future.
"The administrators are assessing the position regarding publication of magazines.
"If you are a subscriber to the company's publications the administrators can be contacted via email at teamrock.subscribers@frpadvisory.com."
