Dog walker, 97, who died after being knocked down named
Margaret Young and her pet Jack Russell Fran died as a result of the collision in Ayr.
A 97-year-old woman who died after being knocked down while walking her dog has been named.
Margaret Young was struck by a BMW as she was crossing Holmston Road in Ayr on Sunday.
The pensioner was taken to Ayr Hospital where she died a short time after the incident at 4.55pm.
Her pet Jack Russell, Fran, also died as it was being taken by police to a local vet.
Police confirmed the 52-year-old man who was driving the grey BMW was not injured in the incident.
Constable Alan Cook said: "Although a number of people came to assist the woman after the crash, no one we have spoken to so far actually witnessed the crash so we would appeal to anyone who saw the collision to contact police as soon as possible."
The road was shut for around five hours before it reopened at 10pm on Sunday.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or who has information relating to it, is asked to contact police on 101.
