Man 'shot shopkeeper in the leg during armed raid'
Peter Blackwood is accused of shooting Naser Hussain at the KOF Convenience Store in Glasgow.
A shopkeeper has told a court he was shot in the leg after offering to hand over cash to a man with a gun.
Peter Blackwood, 26, is accused of attempting to murder Naser Hussain on January 24 at KOF Convenience store on Dumbarton Road, Yoker, Glasgow.
Mr Hussain, 24, told the High Court in Glasgow that seconds earlier the man had pointed the gun at his chest and he heard a click.
He told prosecutor Richard Goddard: "He clicked but nothing came out."
Mr Hussain, now a student who has given up his shop, said when he was shot he grabbed a metal rod which he used to attack the man and chase him off.
He told the court that before 11.30am that day he saw a customer enter his shop and make his way to the till.
Mr Hussain said once he had gone behind the security door at the till a man dressed all in black, with a hat on, pointed a gun at him.
He claimed the man pulled out a handgun and pointed it "directly at him".
Mr Goddard asked: "At this stage was he saying anything to you?"
Mr Hussain replied: "Yes. He was saying, 'give me your money and cigarettes'."
The court heard Mr Hussain tried to close the security door but the man with the gun managed to open it and pointed the gun at him.
He said: "I told him to take what he wanted and go but I was quite scared at the time."
The witness said the man was "more aggressive" and trying to get him to do as he asked.
He said: "I kept saying 'don't shoot' and he probably thought I was wasting more time.
"He aimed at my chest and he clicked but nothing came out then he told me it was a warning shot but the next time wouldn't be.
"I kept saying, 'don't shoot'. Then he shot at my leg."
Jurors heard the man then began to help himself to cigarettes and Mr Hussain grabbed a nearby metal rod and hit him with it.
Mr Hussain said: "He got surprised and he dropped everything and just opened the door and ran on the right side from the entrance."
Mr Goddard asked the witness what he did and he replied: "I went after him. I chased him to a certain point he was faster than me."
The court heard Mr Hussain returned to his shop and the police were contacted and an ambulance arrived.
He told jurors the pain kicked in when he got to the hospital and an X-ray showed he had a bullet in his leg, which was later operated on.
He was kept in hospital for a week afterwards.
CCTV footage of the incident from various cameras in the shop was played to the court.
It is alleged that with his face partially masked, Blackwood went into the shop with a firearm and demanded money and cigarettes, tried to steal cigarettes, attempted to shoot Mr Hussain, and shot him on the leg.
Blackwood also faces firearms charges.
He denies all of the charges against him and trial before temporary judge Thomas Hughes continues.
