Police are hunting for two men who set a car on fire outside a block of flats in South Lanarkshire.

The white Vauxhall Adam was set ablaze in Hamilton's Gilligans Way in the early hours of Sunday.

The female owner of the car was in her flat when she noticed two men standing beside her vehicle at around 1.30am.

The men then set fire to the car and were seen running along Russell Street where they got into a white Volkswagen Golf and drove off down Thorntree Avenue.

Both men were wearing dark clothing and 'tammy' hats.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the fire attack.

Detective constable Colin Thapar said: "Extensive enquiries are underway, with officers speaking to local residents and examining CCTV footage, to ensure we find the people responsible.

"I would like to speak to anyone who saw two men matching the above description or a white Volkswagen Golf in the area in the early hours of Sunday morning.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at Cambuslang CID via 101 or alternatively you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence."
