One man has died and another has been seriously injured in crash between a car and a lorry.

The collision happened on the B7066 Glasgow to Edinburgh Road, near Newhouse, North Lanarkshire, shortly before 3pm on Tuesday.

Two ambulances, three Special Operations Response Teams and an air ambulance were all scrambled to the incident close to the M8.

The 29-year-old driver of the car was rushed to hospital but medics were unable to save him.

A 23-year-old man, who was a passenger in the car, is currently being treated at Wishaw General Hospital for serious injuries.

Police confirmed the 29-year-old's family have been informed of his death.

The road is currently closed for collision investigators to carry out their inquiries.
