Man assaulted with weapon after answering his door
A man wearing a balaclava attacked the victim in Coylton, South Ayrshire.
A man was left with facial injuries after he opened his door to a man wearing a balaclava who attacked him.
The 55-year-old victim was assaulted with a weapon during the incident on Finlayson Way in Coylton, South Ayrshire.
The attacker made off towards Hillhead Road following the attack, which took place around 2.35pm on Sunday.
On Saturday, the victim had been involved in an altercation with the driver of a black Vauxhall Astra near the Spar in Coylton. Police are trying to establish if the incidents are linked.
The attacker is described as being 5ft 7in, of a heavy build and wore an army green-coloured balaclava. He also wore a black top, faded blue jeans and white trainers.
During the altercation at the Spar, the victim was in a silver Mercedes and the Vauxhall Astra had a matt paint finish.
Detective constable Bill Stokes from Ayr CID said: "One line of enquiry is that these incidents may be linked, however we need anyone with information about either incident to come forward so we can establish whether this is the case.
"We would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed an altercation involving the two cars on Saturday evening as well as anyone who may have seen a man matching the above description in the area of Finlayson Way and Hillhead Road on Sunday afternoon.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at Ayr CID via 101 or alternatively you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence."
