Officers cleared of fabricating evidence against couple
Gillian Feroz and Mark Daly found not guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Two police officers have been cleared of attempting to pervert the course of justice by making up false allegations about a gay couple.
Gillian Feroz, 37, of Fenwick, East Ayrshire, and Mark Daly, 31, of Uddingston, South Lanarkshire, were on trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court accused of fabricating statements about Anton Docherty and Ryan Forbes.
Mr Docherty, 27, taped the officers on his phone when they pulled up on Bath Street, Glasgow, on their bikes then arrested the pair for an alleged domestic breach of the peace.
They seized his phone, which continued to record their conversation back to the police office, before giving it back.
Ms Feroz was recorded saying: "Just say they were kind of shoving at one another and shouting and swearing and then make up verbals."
She was heard again using the phrase "make up verbals".
Ms Feroz explained it was just the way she speaks and the phrase "make up" is a commonly used police phrase. Mr Daly also denied the charge against him throughout the trial.
On Wednesday, a jury unanimously found the pair not guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice between January 6 and November 10, 2014, by providing false information about the conduct of Mr Docherty and Mr Forbes, 23, in the city centre.
Mother-of-two Feroz was also found not guilty of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by swearing at Mr Docherty.
