A CCTV appeal has been made by police after two men from Edinburgh were injured in a "violent" street attack during a night out in Glasgow city centre.

The pair were assaulted by a man in the street, with one of the victims being taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Police have issued an image of a man they want to trace in connection with the serious assault in Renfield Street, near the corner of West George Street.

Detective constable Stephen Palmer said: "This was a violent assault on two men who had travelled to Glasgow from Edinburgh for a night out.

"I would appeal to anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV image to please get in touch as he may have information to assist with our enquiries".

A description of the man police are seeking over the incident on Thursday, October 6, has also been released.

He is described as of Middle Eastern appearance, between 5ft 7in and 5ft 8in, of "muscular build" with short dark hair and stubble.

He was wearing a light shirt with the sleeves rolled up and a darker unzipped top.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 101.
