Police are focusing their search for a vulnerable missing woman in the areas of Inverclyde she liked to visit.

Margaret Fleming, 36, was last seen by her two carers at her home in Inverkip, Inverclyde, at around 5.40pm on Friday, October 28.

An extensive search has so far been unsuccessful in tracing Ms Fleming, who police said kept "a side of her life" private.

On Thursday morning, police will stop and speak to pedestrians and drivers around the Inverkip and Wemyss Bay, Inverclyde, and Port Bannatyne, Bute.

It is believed that Margaret liked to visit these areas and officers hope to jog the memories of anyone who may have information.

Ms Fleming is described as around 5ft 5in with collar-length black hair and brown eyes.

She has a heavy build, although her weight sometimes fluctuates, and she was wearing a green tartan fleece or jumper, dark jeans or trousers, and dark Karrimor boots when she was last seen.

The wide-ranging search has involved mounted police, underwater units and police dogs.

Chief inspector Elliot Brown, area commander for Greenock, said: "Today, we're out speaking to local people in the area to help jog their memories and to try and glean more information which might assist with our enquiries.

"We also have some officers who are travelling over to Port Bannatyne on the ferry from Wemyss Bay, as we understand Margaret liked to visit there, to see if anyone over there may have seen her recently.

"We're continuing significant enquiries into the disappearance of Margaret, and unfortunately despite our previous appeals, the sightings we've received from members of the public have drawn a blank. I would like to thank the local communities of Inverkip and beyond for their help so far, we do appreciate it."

He continued: "As we continue to look into Margaret's life, some of which she kept private, we are keen to speak to anyone who may have had any friendship or relationship with her over the years.

"I would ask anyone with any information, no matter how irrelevant it might seem, to contact police at Greenock via 101."

Earlier, police appealed for help in the search for Ms Fleming, who has learning difficulties, describing it as an "unusual missing persons case".

They also outlined that Ms Fleming was a student at James Watt College in Greenock from 1996 to 1997.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who remembers her from then and who might have been in touch with her over the years.
