Man dies after being hit by Mercedes van while crossing road
The pedestrian, 42, was knocked down on Rutherglen Road in the east end of Glasgow.
A man has died after he was knocked down by a Mercedes van on a busy road.
The 42-year-old pedestrian was crossing the road in the east end of Glasgow at around 6pm on Wednesday when he was struck.
Police and emergency services were called to the scene on Rutherglen Road near its junction with Glasgow Road and the man was taken to hospital.
He died a short time later at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. The 21-year-old driver of the Mercedes Vito was uninjured.
A statement from Police Scotland said: "Emergency services attended and the injured pedestrian was taken by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he died a short time later.
"A full report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
"Sergeant John Tait of the Divisional Road Policing Department at Motherwell Police Office is appealing for any witnesses to the crash, or anyone with information that may assist their investigation to contact them through 101."
