A man suffered serious facial injuries after he was attacked by a gang of youths while walking along a canal in West Dunbartonshire.

The 24-year-old victim was walking along the bank of the Forth and Clyde Canal between Whitecrook and Linnvale in Clydebank at around 11.45am on Sunday when he was approached by three teenagers.

One of the boys then attacked the victim's face with a weapon before making off from the area.

The man was then taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

Detective sergeant Gerald Shovlin said: "The canal bank will have been busy with walkers and cyclists at the time of the incident and I would appeal to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to get in touch.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at Clydebank CID via 101 or alternatively you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence."
