A knife-wielding robber threatened staff at a Co-op supermarket in front of terrified customers.

The masked man walked into the shop on Baillieston Road in Glasgow shortly before 9pm on Thursday before producing a knife and demanding money from staff.

He made then made off with hundreds of pounds in cash.

Police said three employees were left "badly shaken" but unhurt from the ordeal, which was witnessed by several customers.

The man is described as white, with a slim build, in his late teens or early 20s.

He was wearing a blue jacket with his hood up, a black scarf or balaclava covering his face and dark coloured jogging bottoms and trainers.

Police are now reviewing CCTV in the hope of finding the man.

Detective constable Jennifer Carey said: "This has been a frightening incident for customers and staff at the store and it's imperative we trace the man responsible.

"There were several customers in the store at the time and I would appeal to them to contact us.

"Any piece of information, no matter how small it may seem, could prove vital in helping us trace the man responsible.

"I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident, perhaps you noticed something suspicious but didn't act on it. If so, please contact us and pass your information on."
