Thirty firefighters worked through the night to tackle a "significant" blaze in a council yard in Oban.

They were called to the scene on Soroba Road, Oban, at around 1.30am on Friday.

Crews had to take extra care as there were highly flammable acetylene cylinders on the site.

At the height of the fire, there were eight appliances in attendance.

A fire service spokeswoman said: "Firefighters are currently tackling a significant fire at Soroba Road, Oban. Johnstone Control received calls reporting the fire at around 1.30am this morning.

"Two crews from Oban were dispatched to reports of a council yard fire.

"On arrival the incident commander quickly assessed the situation and deployed his crews with water jets to stop the fire from spreading.

"[He] increased resources to a total of eight appliances. They came from Lochgilphead, Inveraray, Tyndrum, Bridge of Orchy, Tarbert and Milngavie."
