Decomposed human remains found near a river more than a week ago have yet to be identified.

Police launched an investigation after the remains were discovered by a dog walker near the River Irvine in Galston, East Ayrshire, on Tuesday, November 1.

Officers sealed off woods in Burnbank and said probe is still ongoing to establish the cause of death and identify the body.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said investigations were still at "an early stage" despite the discovery being made nine days ago.

Police also say the death is not currently being treated as suspicious and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
