A dog walker was dragged to the ground by two robbers who injured her pet in a "terrifying" ordeal.

The 30-year-old was walking her Jack Russell on a path near Knowe Road in Gallowhill, Paisley, on Friday morning when a man and a woman approached her.

They dragged her to the ground, kicked and punched her and then attacked her dog, causing the contacts of her bag to spill on the ground.

The two suspects scrambled for the items, allowing the woman to flee the area with her dog.

Nothing of value was stolen and the woman was not seriously injured, while her dog suffered minor injuries.

The man who attacked her was of medium height and slim build. He is believed to be around 35 to 40 and is described as having unkempt brown hair.

He had a gaunt appearance and a distinctive scar which runs from his left ear to his mouth and scarring around his mouth.

The woman was described as having unkempt brown shoulder length hair.

At the time of the incident she was carrying a cream handbag.

Detective constable Raymond Brownlow said: "This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim, who was thankfully not seriously injured, but still left badly shaken as a result of this incident. Her dog also escaped with only a minor injury.

"It is crucial that we trace these cowardly individuals as soon as possible and I am appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

"I would like to speak to anyone who may have seen what happened or a man and woman matching the above description acting suspiciously around the area at the time of this attack.

"Anyone with information can contact officers at the acquisitive crime team based at Paisley via 101."
