School evacuated after 'banging noises' heard at substation
Police and fire crews were called to Shawlands Academy in Glasgow on Friday morning.
A school has been evacuated after "banging noises" were heard from an electrical substation outside.
A major emergency response has been launched in the south side of Glasgow and more than a thousand youngsters escorted from Shawlands Academy on Moss Side Road.
Police, fire crews and Scottish Power engineers were called out at about 10.20am on Friday after the incident resulted in a power cut at the school.
The area has since been sealed off by officers. All pupils were sent home,
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "At around 10.20am on Friday, November 4, police and emergency services responded to a report of irregularities and banging noises coming from an electrical substation close to Moss Side Road.
"Pupils from Shawlands Academy have been evacuated as a precaution.
"Police Scotland officers have closed Moss Side Road to allow for assessment by our partners at the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Scottish Power."
