A Celtic fan is in hospital after falling from the stands during his team's Champions League match in Germany.

The 24-year-old man was left badly injured after plunging from the top tier of the Borussia Park stadium on Tuesday night.

German regional newspaper Westdeutsche Zeitung reported the supporter tried to climb on to the upper section of the Celtic support in the stadium during the match between Cetic and Borussia Monchengladbach, which finished in a 1 -1 draw.

The fan, who has not been named, was taken by ambulance to hospital. The extent of his injuries is not yet known.

It has been reported that no one else was involved in the incident.

The Foreign Office has been liaising with authorities in Germany.

A spokesperson confirmed: "We have been in contact with local authorities in Dusseldorf, Germany after a British national was taken to hospital.

"We are ready to provide consular assistance if requested."
