An elderly man is fighting for his life in hospital after he was hit by a car in South Lanarkshire.

The 82-year-old was struck by a blue Jaguar in the village of Forth at around 10.20am on Tuesday.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital by helicopter, where medics say he is in a critical condition.

No one else was injured in the crash in the village's Main Street.

The road has been closed as an investigation is carried out.

Police have appealed for any witnesses or anyone with information to contact them at Motherwell police office via 101.
