A child has been knocked down by a car as he made his way to school during rush hour.

The boy was struck by a vehicle on Wednesday morning on Dumbarton Road in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire.

He has been taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment following the collision outside the Cabin Inn bar at around 8.35am.

Police have closed a section of the road eastbound between Nairn Place and Boquhanran Road.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 8.35am on Wednesday police received a report of a boy having been struck by a car on Dumbarton Road in Clydebank.

"Emergency services are in attendance and the boy has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment. Inquiries are ongoing."
