A 45-year-old man from Paisley has been charged after an offensive email was sent to a Labour MP in England.

Steven King has been charged under the Malicious Communications Act after an email was sent to the account of Wallasey MP Angela Eagle.

Merseyside Police confirmed King, of Mirin Wynd, Paisley, Renfrewshire, has been charged with sending an email that was "grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character".

He is due to appear before Wirral Magistrates Court on Wednesday, October 19.
