Huge new £75m office building could replace former BHS store
Plans lodged to transform the former retail building in Glasgow city centre.
A former BHS building in Glasgow could be transformed into more than 130,000sq ft of office space in a £75m redevelopment of the site.
The building, which stretched from the corner of Renfield Street at Sauchiehall Street to Bath Street, was occupied by BHS for almost 50 years until it hit financial difficulties.
Property developer Formal Investments has now lodged plans for a new building on Bath Street that would house 1750 workers.
Architects Stallan-Brand are in charge of the project design.
Associate Patrick Wilson said: "Formal Investment's proposed redevelopment presents a unique opportunity to revitalise and transform the quality of the urban environment and public realm in this location, through the creation of new public spaces and improved and more appropriate mixed use activity."
Formal Investments director Nicholas King said: "This proposal shows a really exciting vision for an important site in Glasgow city centre and will provide the highest quality environments for retailers and businesses large and small."
It comes after the next stage of a ten-year £115m city centre regeneration plan was launched on Monday.
