A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an assault on an elderly couple in Glasgow.

The alleged attack took place on Thursday night in Abercromby Street, in the east end of the city, within the couple's sheltered housing accommodation.

Emergency services were called out after the incident and the couple were taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Police initially issued an appeal for information on Friday.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "A 23 year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

"A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
