The 49-year-old was grabbed from behind, pushed to the floor and attacked in West Dunbartonshire.
A woman has been indecently assaulted while walking her dog along a riverside path.
The 49-year-old was walking her dog on a path next to the River Leven in Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire, when she was grabbed from behind, pushed to the floor and attacked.
The incident happened at around 12.10am on Tuesday morning on the path near the junction with Susannah Street and Munro Street.
Police said the man then ran off, leaving the woman on the ground.
She was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and treated for minor injuries.
Detective inspector Scott Hamilton, of Clydebank CID, appealed for witnesses.
He said: "This was a very traumatic experience for the woman which has left her with both mental and physical injuries.
"Our enquiries have revealed that there were a group of teenagers, both male and female nearby who may have witnessed the attack or may have seen the suspect hanging about the area either before or after it took place.
"This pathway is used by many dog walkers and I appeal to any of them who has information to contact police immediately."
Anyone with information should contact CID at Clydebank via 101. Alternatively calls can be made anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
