Father dies and wife and child in hospital after house fire
Firefighters called to house in Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire, at about 2am on Sunday.
A man has died in a house fire which also left his wife and child in hospital.
Firefighters received a 999 call to the family home on Catter Gardens in Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire, shortly before 2am on Sunday.
Three fire engines were sent to the scene, where they found the blaze was well developed. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said their crews removed a man, woman and boy from the house.
It was later confirmed the 45-year-old man, named locally as Colin Davies, had died. His wife Catherine, 42, and 11-year-old son Joel managed to escape with the help of firefighters and were taken to hospital in Glasgow.
Mrs Davies is understood to be in a stable condition while her son is not thought to have suffered serious injuries.
Mr Davies' cousin, Marge Caldwell-Wilson, who emigrated from Glasgow to the US and is a councillor in Trenton, New Jersey, said: "I'm still waiting to hear back from the family to see how his wife and son are doing. I'm waiting to see when I can get a plane ticket and come over there.
"Colin worked for the community and he was a wonderful father and husband. His wife Catherine had MS and he would take good care of her.
"He was very kind. My heart is broken right now. Colin was an exemplary role model for anybody as far as being a father and husband is concerned."
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "A 45-year-old man has died following a fire in a house in Catter Gardens, Milngavie.
"A 42-year-old woman and an 11-year-old boy were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
"Inquiries are ongoing into the cause of the fire but it it not thought to be suspicious."
In a statement, the SFRS said: "Specialist officers from the fire investigation unit attended the scene and will work with police to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident."
