Two men and woman try to lure 12-year-old girl over to car
The incident in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire, is being treated as attempted robbery.
Two men and a woman tried to lure a 12-year-old girl over to their car in an East Renfrewshire town.
Police are investigating the incident, which left the girl "distressed" and took place shortly before noon on Monday in Newton Mearns.
Police are treating the incident as an attempted robbery rather then an attempted abduction, but say it is still a serious matter.
The girl ran away after the occupants of a black Mazda car, two men and a woman, tried to entice her over on Corrour Road.
Detective inspector Stevie Watson, of Pollok CID, said: "The young girl did the right thing - she ran off and called her mum who contacted the police.
"She was not injured but it was very distressing for her and her family to experience.
"At no time did the occupants of the car try to physically get her into the car and whilst the motive has still to be established, at this time, we believe this was more of an attempted robbery - due to the items the girl had - rather than an attempted abduction.
"However, either way, it does not diminish the seriousness of the incident.
"Anyone who saw the car in the area or who has any information they believe may help officers with their inquiry is asked to contact Pollok CID via 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
Police added there had been no other reports of similar incidents in the area.
