A major blaze that ripped through a car showroom and destroyed 40 vehicles is being treated as deliberate by police.

The fire broke out at around 2.30am on Wednesday in in the south side of Glasgow and crews remained at the scene throughout the morning.

A number of road closures were put in place while emergency services dealt with the blaze in Clyde Place, Tradeston.

Several fire crews tackled the "rapidly developing" fire and six pumps were used to extinguish the flames. The area was closed from Paisley Road to Commerce Street until 5.30am.

No one was injured in the fire but up to 40 vehicles were destroyed as a result. Police believe the fire was set deliberately.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "The fire is now being treated as wilful and enquiries are continuing."
