OAP fatally stabbed in street was 'harmless and lovely man'
A 24-year-old man has been detained in connection with death of John Baker in Glasgow.
A pensioner who was fatally stabbed in the street has been described as a "lovely and harmless man".
John Baker, 76, was found seriously injured yards from his home in the east end of Glasgow in the early hours of Tuesday.
Police sealed off a large area around Abercromby Street in the city's Bridgeton area as they launched a major investigation.
A 24-year-old man has been detained in connection with Mr Baker's death.
Tributes have been paid to the 76-year-old who lived in the area for around 50 years.
One family friend, who asked not to be named, told STV News: "Mr Baker lived in the Calton for at least 50 years. He was a quiet man and had a few pals in local pubs.
"He never bothered anyone. My dad was his friend as well as lots other older Calton people but I can honestly say I am so shocked that it's happened to him.
"He was a harmless and lovely man. I knew him for roughly 30 years and have not a bad word to say about him."
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "Enquiries are continuing and a significant uniform presence remains within the Calton and Bridgeton areas."
