Front door set on fire in 'deliberate and dangerous' attack
A man suffered smoke inhalation after the door to his flat was torched in Renfrewshire.
A man was rushed to hospital for smoke inhalation after someone deliberately set his front door on fire.
The 40-year-old was alone in his flat in Tannahill Road, Paisley, when he was awoken by his fire alarm.
Upon investigation he noticed smoke coming in from the stairway and into his hall.
Emergency services were then called to the incident and the fire was promptly extinguished.
The man was then taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital by ambulance, where he was treated for smoke inhalation.
As police surveyed the scene it was established that the front door of the flat had been set alight and the incident is now being treated as wilful fire-raising.
Detective Sergeant Ian Ross at Paisley CID said: "This was a deliberate, dangerous act which could have resulted in far more serious consequences not only for the householder but also the other tenants who lived in the flats.
"Enquiries are continuing to trace who is responsible and officers have been carrying out enquiries in the local area and studying CCTV footage in an effort to gather more information.
"At this time I would urge anyone with information that may assist this police investigation to contact Paisley CID via telephone number 101.
"Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained."
